Embarking on Personal Growth and Setting Personal Goals:

Besides choosing the next professional challenge, I am a strong believer in choosing a personal goal as well. While the usual aspirations of fitness and weight loss are tempting, this time I aimed to set the bar higher and discover an accomplishment that would instill a profound sense of personal pride. Thus, I decided to become fluent in Spanish within six months. Duolingo here we come... ping, ping, ping. Leaderboards, top 3 each week... my competitive streak helps. However, after 95 days of leaderboard battles and persistent learning, I've learned that real practice lies in in-person interactions. This anticipation has me eagerly awaiting September, when I'll immerse myself in Spain to truly refine my language skills.

Discovering the Joy of Accomplishing Unfinished Tasks:

Seizing the opportunity to complete tasks previously left on the back burner is an invigorating feeling. Granting yourself permission to tackle small deeds, without the need to move mountains, is a liberating endeavor. It's perfectly acceptable to paint a single wall, not an entire room, or organize a single cupboard, not the entirety of a space. Finding solace in such small victories is crucial to personal fulfillment.

Finding Serenity in Nature's Embrace:

In the embrace of my garden, I discover a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. The transformation of our outdoor space has been a labor of love, allowing my passion for design to flourish. It was time for the old furniture to find a second life with a young starting couple. Of course of a new color scheme... knowing me, knowing when to stop. Spending time outdoors in a natural environment like a garden can help you connect with nature. The physical work helps me to reduce stress, and anxiety while promoting a sense of calm and relaxation. Watching our plants grow and thrive gives a real sense of accomplishment. It's definitely rewarding to see the tangible results of hard work over time. Make sure you take time to work on your emotional wellbeing.

Embarking on your Journey:

Working as a freelance marketer can be a very attractive career for many people. However, knowing how to begin and getting started in a freelance marketing career is another story. To embark on this journey, I embarked on a journey of introspection, evaluating whether this path resonated deeply with my aspirations. While freelancing promises substantial rewards, it also entails the responsibility of being one's own compass. The first step for me was to decide if it’s something I really wanted to do. While freelancing can be extremely gratifying, there are also challenges that come from being your own boss. 

Picking and getting selected for the projects you want to work on, you get to have more control over the types of jobs you pick and the projects you choose to work on. For me this means focusing all my energy in projects I really enjoy. No doubt one of the biggest benefits of freelancing is the control I keep over my work-life balance, and being fully transparent with potential employers about what I can offer and want. 

Preparing the Kitchen for Success:

Preparing for a freelance career is also making sure you have the latest skills needed for success before you begin. If you don’t, you can spend some time building those skills as I did during the summer months The summer months offered a valuable opportunity to augment these skills. Enrichment was found in a plethora of workshops, training sessions, and webinars that abound in abundance. Distinguishing the most pertinent resources required careful discernment and planning. Crafting a strategy to stay abreast of evolving marketing trends, tools, and techniques through continuous learning remains a cornerstone of staying competitive within this dynamic industry.

Crafting Services and Niche, Laying the Foundations:

Laying the foundations for my freelance venture included crafting a compelling array of services and identifying a distinct niche. Constructing a comprehensive business plan, setting up an online presence that encompassed a captivating website and professional branding, and assembling a portfolio that showcases my expertise and testimonials—all were diligently attended to in the initial phase of this project. As the project evolves, this groundwork remains essential. Regularly revisiting milestones, realigning expectations, and refining content and business strategies have all become integral aspects of this journey. Preparedness and meticulous attention to detail are paramount, and I look forward to navigating this exciting phase.

Learn to Say No when the Opportunity doesn't feel Right:

Learning to say no when an opportunity doesn't align with my values, expertise or what I want to achieve has probably been the most vital lesson in my journey. Initially, the opportunity which presented itself was compelling and new challenge, outside of my normal competency scope, but with experience, I have come to recognize that being crystal clear of what I want to do and staying to true to self is more important, so give yourself time and if it doesn't feel right, trust your instincts. The ability to decline projects that don't resonate allows me to preserve to focus on endeavors that genuinely ignite my passion and leverage my strengths. Saying no is not a rejection, but rather a strategic choice that ensures my commitment to deliver exceptional value. This newfound assertiveness has not only redefined my professional identity but cultivated a sense of empowering myself and steering my career in the direction that truly matters for me. 

Potential Pitfalls and Risks:

Starting a freelance career comes with risks, but by being aware of potential pitfalls and developing strategies to mitigate them, you can increase your chances of building a successful and fulfilling freelance business. One of the biggest fears for starters is probably financial instability. I am lucky that in later stages in my professional career, the challenge of securing projects and uncertainty about cash flow is not my biggest anxiety and does not present me with stress. On the other hand I learned that underpricing my services, or risk of charging rates that are too low will not necessary attract clients. One of my next steps to work on will be having comprehensive contracts that are clear on the project scope, payment terms, and other crucial details. Learning from the experiences of others can be incredibly valuable in avoiding pitfalls and navigating the challenges of freelancing. 

Power of Networking:

For sure the power of networking, joining freelancing forums, social media groups where freelancers share experiences, asking questions can provide you with valuable insights a sense of camaraderie. Although the past few months I have started to increase my network online, and setting up online meetings with potential partners has been a key focus area. Although I do look forward to the post summer era, to attend events in person to benefit fully from the power of networking. I am still looking for that special mentor who has successfully navigated the marketing freelance world. Somebody who can provide me with personalized guidance, share their lessons learned, and help me avoid common mistakes.
