Are you looking for a way to improve your marketing efforts without breaking the bank? Enter the Fractional CMO world - a game-changing approach for businesses that need expert marketing guidance without the hefty price tag of a senior full-time employee. In my blog, we'll explore the benefits of hiring a Fractional CMO. Having a skilled marketing freelancer on an as-needed basis can be a game-changer and make all the difference.
This is a relatively new concept in the world of marketing. A fractional CMO is also referred to as an Outsourced Chief Marketing Officer, a marketing expert, and a leader that works on a part-time basis, rather than having a full-time CMO on staff. Plenty of senior marketing FTE (full-time employees) out there are costly to small and mid-size businesses and their high-cost positions are often vulnerable in a downturn climate, cost-cutting actions, following geopolitical market situations which is what happened to me.
ADVANTAGES
A fractional CMO typically works with small to medium-sized businesses that do not have the budget or resources to hire a full-time CMO. They offer a range of marketing services, including developing marketing strategies, conducting market research, creating marketing plans, and managing social accounts.
Typically a fractional CMO may work for multiple companies as their part-time marketing exec. Interim CMOs are full-time or part-time CMOs that are hired to work for a short period. These CMOs come in with the understanding that they will be filling the gap until a full-time CMO is found.
-
Expertise: Fractional CMOs typically have extensive experience in the marketing field, allowing them to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to a company. They have worked with various businesses and industries, enabling them to provide new perspectives and insights.
- Fresh Perspective: Present new ideas, based on best practices from past experiences and insights that you might not have considered before.
-
Cost-Effective: Hiring a full-time CMO can be expensive, and many smaller companies cannot afford the salary and benefits package associated with a full-time executive. Fractional CMOs work on a part-time or project basis, providing a cost-effective solution for businesses of all sizes.
-
Flexibility: Offering flexible arrangements, allowing businesses to work with them on a short-term or long-term basis, depending on their needs. This flexibility makes it easier for businesses to adapt to changing marketing needs and budget constraints.
-
Focus: Focus on specific marketing initiatives or projects, allowing companies to benefit from their expertise without having to commit to a full-time hire. This approach can help businesses achieve specific goals without having to invest in a full-time executive.
-
Objectivity: Provide an objective perspective on a company's marketing strategy, which can be invaluable in identifying areas for improvement and developing new initiatives. They can offer a fresh perspective, without being bogged down by internal politics or preconceived notions.
GOING FORWARD
Why start your own business later in life you might ask. Well, at the age of 55; I still have plenty of energy and passion, and most of all there were plenty of appealing factors that were beneficial for me to position myself as a fractional CMO, such as flexibility, variety, autonomy, and work-life balance.
Working with multiple clients, a small business, or a project in a large business allows me to gain exposure to a variety of industries and business models, keeping their work fresh and exciting. Having worked in Tech for almost 20 years, moving into a Logistics SME business has been extremely rewarding. I particularly enjoy learning, working with new technologies, and tackling new challenges.
Of course, work-life balance, who does not want to spend more time with their families, pursue hobbies, or travel? I am lucky as my kids have grown, my husband is still very active and busy at work, and I can share my time working from home or my home-from-home base in Spain. Overall, I am super excited about my new venture and where the future will bring me.
